LOCKER HOOKING IS AN EARTH FRIENDLY CRAFT

This blog is for sharing great finds, design ideas, and tips on locker hooking. It’s fitting that it’s getting its start on Earth Day (and purely coincidental) because locker hooking is a very green craft. While you can use new materials, it’s really about using up a stash of swatches, and recycling old fabrics or garments to make something beautiful. And while this blog may evolve to include other crafts, the mission is to promote the craft of locker hooking. It’s not a well known needle craft. I think we can change that. Visit the Color Crazy website for more info. www.colorcrazycrafts.com.

SILK SARI RIBBON

I discovered Sari Ribbon when working on my book “Hook, Loop, & Lock.” It’s made from the remnants and selvages left over at a Sari Factory in India. A women’s co-op cuts the fabric into strips. They’re often in vibrant, rich colors–some with metallic threads, others with a sateen shimmer. What a shame it would be for a factory to toss these out. They will soon be available on the Color Crazy website.

SARI BANGLE BRACELETS

These sari ribbon bangle bracelets were locker hooked for the “Hook, Loop, & Lock” book. You can also knit, crochet, or weave with these ribbon strips. They’re great as an accent on designs, or as you see in these bangles, they add a wonderful fringed look and texture.
