Those of you who have read my books know that I am inspired by what grows in my garden. I love growing things. Like most of you, I also love locker hooking and a variety of other needle crafts. Today is the first day of spring and also international day of happiness. Spring colors are blooming. Perfect time to dream up something colorful to create–whether you’re locker hooking, knitting, crocheting, weaving or painting.
I really didn’t plan it this way; my ADD tends to get in the way. It just so happens… I’ve just added some new fabric strip colors to the Color Crazy line–there are 42 in all–inspired by my gardening efforts. I’m particularly fascinated with the Olive green on this day. It’s such a vital green. The Grapes, Secret Garden, Kaleidoscope, and Aqua colors paired with Pale Terracotta, Slate, Fuchsia, Golden Branch and Avocado are so fun and fresh too. I also added a needed Jet Black.
I’ve been working on design ideas. I just had to try this idea of wrapping edges with Hemp Cord. Great for a coaster, or a design element in a larger piece like a tote bag or mat.
This new mat/trivet kit below I called Art Deco Blossom includes a little of the Olive and Slate with the rich Twilight color. The kit includes all materials: Color Crazy hand-dyed fabric strips, canvas, yarn, and a beautiful hand-crafted glossy tile. Finished it measures 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. Check out all of the new spring colors in pre-cut fabric strips and new kits at Color Crazy.
I hope you’re inspired to try some new colors this spring. Sometimes a little color goes a long way. And sometimes an abundance of rich colors bring about happy results.

I have to admit I panicked. Late last year, rug canvas was no where to be found in the U.S. The only supplier of wholesale canvas had decided to close their doors and I was in the middle of some new designs. Rug canvas is an essential component for my work and the kits I...

When I discovered that locker hooking as a needle craft, was the perfect technique for creating flower textures, I knew I had to get creative and produce some super colorful and textural designs. I always admired the texture you can achieve with traditional rug hooking using a latch hook, and beautiful embroidered florals. Turns out...
